Lyon agree N12.6b fee with KAA Gent for 2023 Super Eagles invitee Gift Orban
Published: January 17, 2024Olympique Lyonnais are on the verge of completing the signing of 2023 Super Eagles invitee Gift Orban.
As reported by French sports daily L'Equipe the French giants are set to sign the Nigerian striker for a fee of around €13m (approximately N12.6 billion in Nigerian currency) and he will ink a four-and-half year deal with the club.
Orban joined Gent in January 2023 and quickly settled in the Belgian side like a duck to water, notching 20 goals in his first twenty-two appearances across all competitions.
His prolific start to life at the Ghelamco Arena attracted interest from Tottenham last summer with the Premier League side in need of a striker having lost Harry Kane to Bayern Munich.
However, the 21-year-old has been able to hit the heights of last season and that has made him lose his place in Gent's starting lineup and fall out with the manager, Hein Vanhaezebrouck.
A move to Lyon could allow him to discover his form and confidence as the Ligue 1 side are in dire need of offensive reinforcements having started the season badly.
They sit in 16th position on the league table and have scored 17 goals in eighteen games.
