Everton were credited with an interest in signing Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori during the latter stages of the summer transfer window after failing to capture Kurt Zouma on a permanent deal.

Unfortunately, the Merseyside outfit couldn't complete their move for the youngster as Lampard failed to release him due to David Luiz's shock switch to North London side Arsenal.

However, things haven't gone well for Marco Silva's team at the back and the manager will be very sad over his inability to lure Tomori to the Goodison Park.

His men conceded seven goals in just five Premier League matches and they currently occupy the 11th position after picking up seven points from 15.

The youngster would have been a perfect signing for Everton because his defensive traits will bring more quality to the team and he will possibly form a strong partnership with Yerry Mina at the heart of the defence.

The England U21 international has navigated his way into Frank Lampard's starting line-up and that won't change judging by his goalscoring display against Wolves on Saturday.

The Toffees defence has left so much to be desired so far and Silva would have wished he signed the young man at all costs before the start of the season.

Tomori is in line to make his Champions League debut as Chelsea battle Valencia at Stamford Bridge later tonight.
