Breaking : 2013 U17 World Cup-Winning Midfielder Joins Latvian Club FK Liepaja
Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that 2013 U17 World Cup-winning midfielder Abdullahi Alfa has just completed a transfer to Latvian VirslÄ«ga side FK LiepÄja.
The 24-year-old appended his signature to a one-and-a-half-year deal with FK LiepÄja on Wednesday afternoon, ending his association with FK Ventspils in the process.
Alfa, who started every single game played by the Golden Eaglets at the 2013 U17 World Cup, was one of three Nigerian players scouted by manager Gernot Rohr when FK Ventspils faced Bordeaux in the second qualifying round of the Europa League in August 2018.
Explaining why he chose FK LiepÄja, Alfa told allnigeriasoccer.com : "I have liked this team for long, they are committed, they are organized, everything about them is good.
"LiepÄja is one hour journey from Ventspils. It will help me settle down quickly because there are three Nigerian players here in LiepÄja.
"My target with FK LiepÄja is to finish the season in the Europa League spots, if possible win the League and win the Cup too.
"I am bringing to the team my ability to balance the game, stop and initiate attacks and score goals".
Abdullahi Alfa has asked for the number 7 jersey for the remainder of the 2020 season.
