Brand new Watford signing Emmanuel Dennis has revealed that he received advice from former Manchester United striker Odion Ighalo before and after completing his transfer to the Hornets.
Less than a year after a proposed move to West Brom fell through, the ex-Club Brugge winger now has the opportunity to play in one of the best leagues in the world following his switch to Vicarage Road.
Dennis spoke with Ighalo after Club Brugge's meeting with Manchester United in a Europa League round of 32, first leg clash in 2020 - a game in which he was on target and the 2019 AFCON top scorer entered the game as a substitute in the second half.
Ighalo first made his name in England at Watford, for whom he scored 39 goals in 100 appearances, before moving to China in 2017.
Speaking to Watford's official webpage, Dennis said : "I’m a big fan of him (Ighalo). I watched him play here and score a lot of goals.I played against him in the Europa League so I met him after the game, we spoke together, he’s an inspiration.
"I spoke to him when I was here too, on FaceTime. He said: ‘I’m happy you’re here, you’re going to love it. The people are nice. Just play football, you’re going to enjoy yourself.’
"He’s like a big brother. He scored a lot of goals for Nigeria so I’m very happy I became his friend."
Dennis, who has put pen to paper on a five-year deal with the Golden Boys, has resumed training with his new teammates including William Troost-Ekong, Isaac Success and Tom Dele-Bashiru.
