Aston Villa pull off transfer coup by signing 19-year-old Nigerian wanted by Tottenham, Rangers

Aston Villa have pulled off a major transfer coup by signing Austrian-born Nigerian striker Caleb Chukwuemeka.

The Claret and Blue confirmed through their official website on Monday the signing of the 19-year-old from Northampton Town for an undisclosed fee.

Aston Villa saw off competition from Tottenham Hotspur and Glasgow Rangers to secure the signature of Chukwuemeka.

Caleb's transfer to Aston Villa sees him reunite with his younger brother and fellow Northampton Town academy product Carney, who joined Villa in 2016.

The older Chukwuemeka departs the Cobblers after making four starts and twenty-four appearances as a substitute, scoring two goals.

Commenting on the deal, Aston Villa Academy manager Mark Harrison said to the club's official website: "We are delighted that Caleb has joined us. He has been a player we have been monitoring for a while now and has continued to develop well at Northampton, making a number of appearances last season.

"He is an exciting attacking player with an eye for goal and we feel has a lot of potential. We are really looking forward to working with him.

"I would like to thank Northampton for the way in which they've handled this transfer."

Chukwuemeka is the second Nigeria-eligible teenager to join Villa in the summer transfer window, after Tim Iroegbunam, who arrived from West Brom.
