Chelsea have reached an agreement to sign striker Emanuel Emegha from Ligue 1 side RC Strasbourg, with the Dutch-born forward set to officially join the Blues in 2026 on a long-term seven-year contract, informs the official website of the Fifa Club World Cup champions.
Emegha, 22, has rapidly risen as one of Europe’s most promising attacking talents after a breakthrough campaign in France.
The tall and versatile striker registered 14 goals and three assists in 27 Ligue 1 appearances last season, drawing attention from several top European clubs before Chelsea secured his signature.
Born in the Netherlands to a Nigerian mother and Togolese father, Emegha is eligible to represent the three nations at international level.
However, he has now made his stance clear regarding his future on the global stage.
Speaking on Ziggo Sport’s Kick 't Met podcast, the forward revealed that Nigeria had approached him to switch allegiance, but insisted his loyalty remains with the Dutch national team.
"They approached me, yes, but my heart belongs to the Netherlands,†Emegha said.
"I grew up here; this is my home. My mother consciously chose the Netherlands because she believed in a better life for us."
The decision, he stressed, was not based on sporting opportunity but rooted in gratitude.
Emegha’s arrival in 2026 will be part of Chelsea’s long-term squad-building strategy under Enzo Maresca, with the club aiming to secure elite young talents for the future.
