Chelsea Aiming To Sell Mikel After Exceeding Foreign Quota
Published: July 29, 2014
According to respected British journalist Matt Law, who writes for the Daily Telegraph, Chelsea may be forced to offload Nigerian midfielder John Obi Mikel this summer as the squad has exceeded the foreign quota permitted by both the Premier League and UEFA.
Chelsea have 18 foreigners over the age of 21 on their payroll while clubs can only name 17 players above that age in their official 25 - man squad lists for both competitions.
One of Fernando Torres, Obi Mikel and Petr Cech might be sold to free space on the roster.
Post World Cup, the Nigeria international has not attracted concrete interest from clubs across Europe.
Meanwhile, England youth - teamer Dominic Solanke will train with the Chelsea first team squad this season, though manager Jose Mourinho admitted that he will not be registered for the Premier League.
