Fasheun Backs Oduduwa U-15 Soccer Tourney

The maiden National Under-15 Soccer Championship instituted by Organisation for Grassroots Sports Development (OGSD) to celebrate the Yoruba progenitor has attracted interest from the National leader of Odua People’s Congress (OPC) Dr. Fredrick Fasheun who pledged his total support for the tourney slated for 21st August at Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan.
The National Chairman of Unity Party of Nigeria said the event is significant connotation to the ideals of the OPC hence deserved the support of the socio cultural body.
Dr. Fasheun who disclosed this while speaking ahead of the competition said the soccer tournament which would draw participants from every part of the country is a good tool to engage the pupils during the schools’ long vacation.
The President of OGSD, the body that is organizing the tourney, Alhaji Raji Oladimeji said the tournament is long overdue and the body would strive to make it an annual sporting event in honour of the founding father of Yoruba race.
He however, added that some illustrious sons and daughters of the land, which includes Dr. Fredrick Fasheun, Dr. Fola Akinosun, Senator Femi Olaore and Hon. Oluwametomi Adetokunbo would be honoured with distinguished Sports Merit Award during event.
The grassroots tourney which would also provide platform for the kids to exhibit their talent before national teams’ scouts that would be invited by the organizer would commence on 21st and end on 27th August 2014 while about 20 States have signified interest to storm Ibadan for the event.
