Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Kola Shodipo has attributed the inability of Nigerian Super Eagles to book a place in the 2015 edition of African Cup of Nations (AFCON) slated for Malabo, Equatorial Guinea to incessant distractions from administrative wing of the football body.
Oyo Police boss disclosed this while briefing newsmen in his office ahead of a soccer competition tagged CP Cup, designed to be played among four area commands and four other Police formations in the state.
CP Shodipo who was part of government delegation to the last FIFA World Cup hosted in Brazil said the nation is blessed with enough abundant talent that should placed us above board in continental football but the unrest rocking the nation’s soccer governing body is causing distraction for the team.
“Desperation and do or die attitude shown by people managing our football does not portray them as somebody that has the genuine love for the development of the game at heart, and that is what the national are paying for, no team can strive under such bickering” –CP Shodipo who is the Chairman of Technical Committee for the Biennial Police Games noted.
He however, described sports as a good tool to promote peace while reassuring the dwellers in Oyo State effective and people’s friendly policing.
Meanwhile, the Oyo CP Cup would commences on Tuesday 9th at the Police playing ground Eleyele Ibadan with eight teams namely Iyaganku Area Command Team, Agodi Area Command Team, Oyo Area Command Team, Ogbomoso Area Command Team, Headquarters’ Ops Team, Anti Bomb/ Skynet Team, Band and Mess Team and a Team from Mopol 4 according to the officer-in-charge of sports in the state DSP Segun Famuyiwa.
