Reigning Champs Kano Pillars Thrash Giwa FC
Published: June 18, 2015
Reigning Nigeria Professional Football League champions Kano Pillars thrashed Giwa FC 4-1 at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Thursday.
A brace each from Rabiu Ali and Adamu Mohammed secured the win that took Masu Gida to third on the ladder, with 21 points from 12 matches.
Ocheme Edoh scored a consolation goal for the visitors, who gave as good as they had but were simply outclassed by a superior team.
Pillars meant business from the get-go and pressed the Jos Elephants hard in the opening stages, forcing turnovers in an end-to-end game.
Ali made the first chance of the game with an excellent spot-kick. He showed no such weakness when he timed his shot to perfection, with a precise kick six minutes into the game.
Seven minutes later it was 2-0 and the celebrations started early as Adamu gratefully chipped goalkeeper Friday Achimugwu.
The Jos Elephants thought they had given themselves a big chance of causing an upset when Ocheme Edoh reduced the deficit in the 37th minute.
Charles Henlong was the architect, beating his man down the right flank and cutting the ball back with his weaker right foot to Ocheme, who headed home the ball with power into the roof of the net, giving Theophilus Afelokhai no chance.
Two minutes later Ali restored Pillars two-goal cushion with another penalty strike.
Adamu then made it 4-1, smashing home from a goal mouth scramble to seal his brace.
In truth, Pillars missed several other chances and could easily have scored more goals on the day as the their attackers were wasteful, but it mattered little in the end.
