Exclusive : Arsenal Snatched Nwakali From Under The Noses Of Manchester United
Published: August 03, 2016
Manchester United attempted to sign Kelechi Nwakali before English Premier League rivals Manchester City and Arsenal, allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report.
The Nigeria U20 international is on the verge of being unveiled by the Gunners but would have been a player of the Red Devils instead if talks that took place in Owerri between ex-Manchester United coach Phil Brogan and ASJ Academy had been fruitful.
Brogan has an eye for talents and is credited for discovering former Manchester United and West Ham midfielder Ravel Morrison, while he coached Marcus Rashford during his time at Old Trafford.
“Manchester United were interested in signing Kelechi Nwakali before Arsenal, ” a top source told allnigeriasoccer.com.
“Their former academy coach Phil Brogan was in Owerri to scout him and was impressed after watching him in a game.
“Brogan and a Nigerian agent started talks with Kelechi’s club and family only to discover that they had signed a representation agreement with another agent so the deal collapsed. ”
The 18-year-old Nwakali trained with Manchester City before the 2015 Fifa Under 17 World Cup , where he rose to prominence on the international stage, but could not agree terms with the Citizens.
