Published: August 13, 2016
Catch up on the performances of players of Nigerian descent on the opening day of the season in the English Premier League on Saturday, August 13.
Ahmed Musa looked lively on his debut in the English top-flight as defending champions Leicester City surprisingly lost 2-1 to newly promoted Hull City at the KCOM Stadium.
The Super Eagles star worked a ninety-minute shift in attack. Injured Moses Odubajo did not make the Tigers squad.
At Selhurst Park, ex-Flying Eagles invitee Freddie Ladapo remained on the bench for the entirety of Crystal Palace’s 1-0 loss to West Brom. It would have been his competitive debut for the Eagles if he had featured.
England midfielder Ross Barkley scored after five minutes as Everton were held to a 1-1 draw by Tottenham Hotspur. The Toffees number eight and Spurs star Dele Alli went the distance.
England U19 international Joshua Onomah was a non-playing substitute for the White Hart Lane outfit.
Scotland international Ikechi Anya came on for Odion Ighalo in the 81st minute at St. Mary’s Stadium, as Watford shared the spoils with Southampton (1-1). Isaac Success was not in the Hornets traveling party, having failed a late fitness test.
In the evening kickoff, Kelechi Iheanacho starts on the bench for Manchester City in their clash with Sunderland. Teammate Tosin Adarabioyo was not included in the Citizens 18-man squad.
