Relieved Liverpool Loanee Awoniyi Reacts After Netting First Goal In European Top Flight
Published: May 07, 2017
Liverpool loanee Taiwo Awoniyi gave glory to the Almighty God after netting an 89th winner as NEC Nijmegen beat AZ Alkmaar 2-1 in the Dutch Eredivisie on Sunday afternoon.
The Nigeria U23 international has been firing on all cylinders in the reserve league with five goals from six games, but has struggled to replicate those performances for the first team, so he was relieved to score today.
''I also had a very good feeling, but I was also happy for the team. Because it was an important goal for everyone, we won again and that was a long time ago,'' said Taiwo Awoniyi.
''God is the best in life. For everything that happens in my life I give him the glory. Whether it goes well or bad. But he helped me and the team today.''
Awoniyi, who picked up a booking for over-celebrating his first goal in the European top-flight, has 17 appearances to his name in the league.
Despite their eighth win of the season, NEC are second bottom, with only one round before the end of the regular season.
