Through their official website, Ajax Women have announced that they have strengthened their squad with the signing of American-born Nigerian striker Toni Payne on undisclosed terms.
The 22-year-old would have joined the Dutch club during the winter break but needed to complete her degree at Duke University.
In her first words after signing the contract on Tuesday, Payne said : ''I know Ajax from a young age and it has always been my dream to play in Europe.
''You look at the best football players and soccer players and play in this continent. It has always been a source of inspiration for me.
''When Ajax showed interest, I went for my chance. I feel good at home and adapt to the new environment. With creativity and speed, I hope to be valuable as a player for my team.''
Payne was a member of the United States team that won the 2012 CONCACAF U-17 Women's Championship in Guatemala.
She has trained with the United States U20s and has caps for their Under 23 squad.
