64-Cap Defender Akpoguma Omitted From Germany European U21 Championship Squad
Published: May 17, 2017
Germany U21 manager Stefan Kuntz announced a 25-man squad for the forthcoming 2017 UEFA European Under-21 Championship on Wednesday.
There is no place in the squad for Fortuna Düsseldorf central defender of Nigerian descent Kevin Akpoguma.
The former Germany U20 skipper has been on the sidelines since April 21 after suffering a broken first cervical vertebrae in a league match against St Pauli, an injury which has ruled him out of action for the remainder of this season.
Akpoguma has racked up 64 international appearances for Germany's youth teams since he first played for the U16s against Cyprus in a friendly on February 15, 2011.
Germany begin their training camp on June 1 and will fly to Poland on the 14th. They will face Czech Republic, Denmark and Italy in the group stage.
