Sunderland wonderkid Joel Asoro is in the running to be named the most outstanding youngster representing the reserve team of an English club.
The Sweden U21 international of Nigerian descent has been nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Season award, and has to see off competition from ten other nominees to win the accolade.
The 18-year-old striker helped Sunderland reach the final of the Premier League International Cup, where they lost 5-0 to Chidozie Awaziem's Porto at the Stadium of Light on Wednesday.
Asoro became the youngest player of Nigerian descent to feature in an English Premier League match when he came off the bench against Middlesbrough on August 21, 2016 aged 17 years, 117 days.
Last month, he was one of the three Nigerian talents shortlisted for the European Golden Boy, the others being Dominic Solanke (Chelsea) and Tosin Adarabioyo (Manchester City).
He has made the Black Cats match day squads 12 times this season, including eight for Premier League matches.
