Brighton Defender Of Nigerian Descent, Akindele Make Canada Provisional Squad For Gold Cup Two players of Nigerian descent Sam Adekugbe and Tesho Akindele have been named in a 40-man provisional roster by Canada manager Octavio Zambrano ahead of the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

The squad will be reduced to 23 after a home international friendly match against Curaçao on June 14 in Montréal.

Brighton & Hove defender Adekugbe was eligible to represent the senior national teams of England and Nigeria before making his competitive debut for the Canadians in a World Cup qualifier against Belize in September 2015.

Calgary-born striker Tesho Akindele has 13 appearances (8 starts) under his belt for Canada senior team, scoring two goals and providing an assist.

Canada have been drawn alongside French Guiana, Costa Rica and Honduras in the group stage of the Gold Cup, CONCACAF's own version of the African Nations Cup.
