Youngest-Ever Nigerian To Play In Premier League Confirms Liverpool, Arsenal Interest
Published: June 12, 2017
Liverpool are among the Premier League teams interested in signing Sweden U21 international of Nigerian descent Joel Asoro in the summer transfer window.
The Sunderland Echo claims Southampton, Everton and Liverpool are all looking at Asoro, but it is Arsenal who are in pole position to snap him up from Sunderland.
Reacting to reports linking him with a move to these teams, Asoro told Fotbollskanalen : ''It's crazy. I've heard that the clubs are interested, but then they do not know if it's more than that.
''It is clear that it is always fun that teams like Arsenal show interest. It raises self-esteem, but I can not run around and think about it now.
''I'm in the Euro and maybe there would have been another thing if I had been in England. Now I'm here and try to think about it.''
Asoro became the youngest player of Nigerian descent to feature in the Premier League when he came off the bench against Middlesbrough in August 2016, aged 17 years and 117 days.
