Revealed: Omeruo Refused To Show Up For Vitesse Medical, Chelsea Higher-Ups Furious
Published: June 21, 2017
Chelsea were on the brink of loaning Kenneth Omeruo to Dutch Eredivisie side Vitesse Arnhem shortly after signing him from Sunshine Stars in January 2012, only for the central defender to pull the plug on the deal after failing to show up for his medical despite being in the Netherlands.
Some rival agents, including Chika Akujobi, demanded a hefty sum from Omeruo's bonafide representatives and Vitesse before allowing the deal go through, arguing that they spent so much money on him while he was undergoing trials with Standard Liege in Belgium.
Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo was infuriated by the antics of Omeruo, especially as it involved a partner club, and had threatened to cancel his deal with the Blues but had a change of heart.
''Kenneth Omeruo was to join Vitesse and not ADO Den Haag, but some agents came from nowhere to spoil the deal,'' a top source involved in negotiations with Chelsea told allnigeriasoccer.com.
''Chelsea had already agreed terms with Vitesse, Omeruo flew to the Netherlands from Nigeria for his medical.
''Chika requested for money they spent while he was at Standard Liege, he called big money and we managed to give him a percentage of what he demanded. ''
He added : ''We were in Vitesse's office waiting for Omeruo to join us for his medical, but Chika refused to present him until he is paid as he requested. The next day they still refused to present him to Vitesse.
''He carried Omeruo to Vitesse's training ground. This made Emenalo very angry and he said he'll cancel his deal with Chelsea but we begged him.''
Chelsea higher-ups have vowed Omeruo will never play for the first team of the Premier League champions, hence he has been loaned out to teams in the Championship and Turkey in the last few seasons, despite being in the possession of a British work permit.
