Golden Ball Winner Of Nigerian Descent Aims Dig At Chelsea Over Their Youth Policy
Published: July 11, 2017
England U20 World Cup-winning striker Dominic Solanke has taken a dig at his past employers Chelsea after stating that his new club Liverpool give their youngsters opportunities to make the first team.
Indeed, Solanke has a point as he made only one appearance for the first team of Chelsea in the thirteen years he spent at Stamford Bridge despite being regarded as one of the most promising teenagers in the whole of Europe.
''Every time I see Liverpool, there’s such a family nature, there’re a lot of young players doing well at the club, so I think it will be a good place for me to develop my career,'' said Dominic Solanke.
''As a young player, you always want to see the club you’re at pushing young players through. ''
He added : ''I’m quite good friends with Joe Gomez - I’ve known him since we were young - and obviously Ovie and Sheyi were with us at the Under-20 World Cup. We spoke a bit when we were away, so I’m looking forward to enjoying it with them.
''Liverpool’s got a lot of good young players, so hopefully everyone can play their part.''
The Golden Ball winner at the 2017 Fifa U20 World Cup is in the frame to make his debut for Liverpool when they take on Tranmere Rovers in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday evening.
