Chelsea Young Star Tomori : I Am Not A Right Wing-Back, Conte Has Been Schooling Me
Published: July 27, 2017
Nigerian defender Fikayo Tomori has admitted that the right wing-back role is new to him and Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has been schooling him on what is expected in that position.
Tomori, who is primarily a central defender, has been training as a wing-back since the start of pre-season, and has been introduced as a right wing-back in all Chelsea's pre-season games so far after coming off the bench.
''I’ve never actually played right wing-back before but I played right-back quite a lot in my earlier years,'' Tomori told chelseafc.com.
''The manager has made me aware of what’s required in the role; where to be, where to run and where to pass the ball, which has made it a lot easier for me.
''I’m enjoying it and hopefully whenever I get a chance I can make an impression.''
Tomori helped England with the Fifa U20 World Cup for the first time in their history this summer, and was partnered by Chelsea teammate Jake Clarke-Salter in central defense.
