Two Nigerian Talents Omitted From Chelsea Squad To Face Qarabag In UYL
Published: September 12, 2017
Ola Aina's younger brother, Jordan, and Tariq Uwakwe will not debut for two-time champions Chelsea when they take on Azerbaijan opponents Qarabag in the UEFA Youth League on Tuesday afternoon.
The defender and central midfielder have been omitted from The Blues U19 match day squad for the clash at Cobham Training Centre (Stoke d'Abernon, Surrey).
Uwakwe, 17, was an unused substitute in Chelsea's 2-0 win versus Arsenal in the U18 Premier League this past weekend.
The midfielder made his debut for the Young Lions U19 team during the first international break, but has found game time difficult to come by since the season started, having missed the last three matches played by the U18s in the league.
Jordan Aina, who has yet to sign a scholarship deal with Chelsea, has not figured for their U18 team this term.
The likes of Ola Aina, Fikayo Tomori, Tammy Abraham, Ike Ugbo and Dominic Solanke have represented Chelsea in the UEFA Youth League in the past.
Chelsea Starting XI : Cumming, James, Colley, Chalobah, C.Dasilva, Ampadu, Sterling, McCormick (c), Taylor-Crossdale, Maddox, Hudson-Odoi.
Substitutes : Castillo, Bulka, Brown, Mceachran, Guehi, Gallagher, Grant
