Arsenal 1 Leicester 0 PL2: Akpom Sparkles, Ndukwu Starts, No Debut For Habib
Published: September 16, 2017
Arsenal have twelve points from their first five matches in the Premier League 2 following their 1-0 win over Leicester City at Meadow Park (Borehamwood) on Friday night.
A day after Akpom was included in the Gunners' match day squad for the Europa League game versus Cologne, the former England U21 international made the starting line-up against the Foxes.
Leicester City's Layton Ndukwu started in attack, but there was no debut for 2013 Fifa U17 World Cup winner Habib Makanjuola amid concerns over his eligibility to play in England despite signing a four-year contract in the summer transfer window.
An own goal from defender Darnell Johnson in the 32nd minute was all that separated the two teams at the end of the contest.
Akpom came close to scoring in the first half and in the 70th minute when he dragged his shot wide after he was found by the talented Reiss Nelson.
England U18 international Tolaji Bola made his maiden appearance for Arsenal in Premier League 2 this season when he came off the bench in the 63rd minute, a minute before Ndukwu was replaced.
