Bayer Leverkusen Right Back Ekene Gets Germany Call-Up
Published: November 01, 2017
Bayer Leverkusen prodigy Ekene Achunike has been summoned by the German Federation to join their U16 team for international matches in November.
Ekene has been included in Germany's traveling party to the Czech Republic where they will play two international matches against Czech Republic U16s on November 9 and 11.
The 15-year-old is among the eight defenders invited by DFB coach Michael Feichtenbeiner.
The young defender would be hoping to add to his international caps at that level, having debuted against Austria on September 13, before he was left out of the team that faced Belgium in a double-header last month.
This season, Ekene Achunike has suited up nine times for Bayer Leverkusen's U17 team in the B-Junioren Bundesliga West, logging 389 minutes and received a caution against Schalke 04 on game week 2.
Jordan Torunarigha (Hertha BSC), Felix Uduokhai (Wolfsburg), Emmanuel Iyoha (Fortuna Düsseldorf) and Kevin Akpoguma (Hoffenheim) represent Germany's youth teams but can still turn out for the Super Eagles in future.
