Man City Loanee Kayode May Get Eleventh-Hour Call-Up To Nigeria Squad
Published: November 04, 2017
Manchester City loanee Olanrewaju Kayode may be called up to the Nigerian national team at the eleventh hour following the injuries suffered by three players initially named to the 24-man roster.
Ex-Watford star Odion Ighalo has withdrawn from the squad after spraining his knee, while Gent winger Moses Simon and Trabzonspor midfielder Eddy Onazi might also be lost to injuries.
Since making his competitive debut against South Africa in June, Kayode was omitted from the pool that faced Cameroon and Zambia, and was not even placed on standby for the games against Algeria and Argentina.
''Kayode may now replace Ighalo more so that Moses Simon and Onazi are huge injury doubts,'' a Super Eagles official told SCORENigeria.com.ng.
After an indifferent start to his career in Spain with Girona, Kayode has impressed in his last two matches in the Spanish top-flight against Deportivo de La Coruña and Real Madrid.
The former Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles star has made ten appearances in La Liga, and has two assists to his name.
