Chelsea Star Sets Premier League Record After Scoring Against Liverpool
Published: November 26, 2017
According to the statisticians at London based sports data company OPTA, Chelsea's Brazil international Willian Borges da Silva set a Premier League record for the 2017-18 campaign when he struck against Liverpool.
The attacking midfielder replaced Italy star Davide Zappacosta in the 83rd minute with Chelsea having a deficit to make up after Mohamed Salah's 65th minute goal.
Out of the blue, Chelsea got an equalizer courtesy of Willian, whose attempted cross somehow beat goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.
The strike from the Blues number 22 is the fastest goal scored by a substitute in the Premier League this season after thirteen rounds.
''144 - Willian scored just 144 seconds after coming on as a substitute - the fastest in the Premier League this season. Lob,'' OPTAJoe tweeted.
The fastest goal scored by a substitute in the history of the Premier League is six seconds by Nicklas Bendtner while defending the colours of Arsenal against Tottenham Hotspur on December 22, 2007.
