Published: December 14, 2017
Arsenal began their FA Youth Cup campaign with a hard fought 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday on Wednesday night, with five players of Nigerian parentage named in the Gunners match day squad.
Xavier Amaechi started and put in a full shift, Tobi Omole and Bukayo Saka were introduced in the second half, goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo and Folarin Balogun watched proceedings from the bench for the entirety of the game.
Arsenal were two goals up at half-time, Amaechi put the London team ahead before doubling their advantage with a composed finish.
The 16-year-old has now netted six goals in his last five matches for Arsenal U18s after returning from an injury that had kept him on the sidelines at the start of this season.
Amaechi notched a brace against Tottenham Hotspur, and scored a goal each in games against Swansea City and Stoke City.
Arsenal's reward for beating Sheffield Wednesday is a fourth round tie against Liverpool.
