Moses-Less Chelsea Through To League Cup Semifinals, Bournemouth's Ibe Notches Assist
Published: December 20, 2017
Chelsea toppled Bournemouth 2-1 following a frenetic ending in their League Cup quarterfinal clash on Wednesday evening, courtesy of strikes from Willian and Alvaro Morata at Stamford Bridge.
Nigeria's Victor Moses was afforded a full rest for the encounter as Antonio Conte rotated his squad, offering most of his fringe players a chance to impress in the Cup tie.
The Blues got off to a perfect start with just 13 minutes played, Cesc Fabregas cantering into the Cherries box from a tight angle to square for Willian who tapped in first time.
Jordon Ibe and Fraser threatened to equalize for Bournemouth after the first half, the latter causing Davide Zappacosta a lot of problems before the former went close with a low effort from just outside the penalty area.
But the stoppage time of the game saw two quick fire goals emerge, first from the visitors who pulled level through Dan Gosling, with Ibe providing the assist.
Chelsea hit back to ensure they joined Arsenal and Manchester City in the next round, Alvaro Morata converting 18 minutes after coming off the bench to send the home faithfuls into delirium.
