Liverpool's New Signing Van Dijk Costs Seven Times Nigeria's Most Expensive Defender

Liverpool have broken the transfer record for a defender with the acquisition of Netherlands international Virgil Van Dijk for 85 million euros.

The Reds have confirmed on their official website  that they have agreed a deal with Southampton, and the player himself, that will see the 26-year-old defender move to Anfield when the transfer window re-opens on January 1, 2018.

Liverpool paid approximately seven times more for Virgil Van Dijk compared to the figure Inter Milan paid to Auxerre for the signing of ex-Super Eagles defender Taribo West (€12m).

That transfer which was completed twenty years ago made Taribo West the most expensive Nigerian defender of all time.
