Nigerian Winger Commended By Chelsea Coach After Sparkling Display Vs West Brom
Published: January 18, 2018
Young Nigerian midfielder Tariq Uwakwe has been commended by Chelsea coach Jody Morris following his outstanding performance in Chelsea's 7-0 demolition of West Brom in the FA Youth Cup on Wednesday night.
The England youth international didn't get on the score-sheet but the manager admitted that he gave a good account of himself in his position on the right wing.
''We were really good going forward and showed lovely bits of link-up play down both wings, with Juan Castillo and Callum down the left and Tariq Lamptey with Tariq Uwakwe down the right,'' Morris told Chelsea's official website.
''The fact we had five different scorers was testament to the type of attacking football we were playing because we looked a threat from set-pieces, on the counter-attack and in isolated areas with individual brilliance. ''
Uwakwe, 18, joined Chelsea at U8 level and penned his first professional contract in 2016 after turning seventeen.
