Top Deals Involving Nigerian Players In The January Transfer Window Ranked
Published: February 02, 2018
Nigerian-Brazilian striker Dominic Vinicius's move to Chinese club Beijing Enterprises is among the three most expensive transfers involving a Nigerian player in the January transfer window.
Beijing Enterprises paid Vejle Boldklub £1.53 million before the Danish club agreed to shred their contract with the São Paulo-born talent, making him the second costliest player and only superseded by Super Eagles striker Anthony Ujah.
Contrary to reports that claimed Ujah had terminated his contract, FSV Mainz 05 paid Liaoning Whowin £3.42 million before they could bring the former Werder Bremen star back to Germany.
In third position is Super Eagles right-back Abdullahi Shehu, who joined Bursaspor from Anorthosis Famagusta for 180,000 pounds.
Last January, ex-Watford striker Odion Ighalo broke the Nigerian transfer record previously held by Obi Mikel when he joined CC Yatai for £20.97m, but money did not change hands that much in the just concluded window.
The likes of Ahmed Musa, Oghenekaro Etebo, Emmanuel Emenike, Brown Ideye, Umar Sadiq, Orji Okonkwo, Elderson, Fred Friday, Kelechi Nwakali , Chidiebere Nwakali were loaned to their new teams.
Nosa Igiebor, Gbenga Arokoyo, Izunna Uzochukwu, Gbolahan Salami and Tunde Adeniji moved as free agents.
