New Mikel, Anjorin Feature As Chelsea Reach Ninth Consecutive FAYC Quarterfinal
Published: February 14, 2018
Chelsea have qualified for their ninth consecutive FA Youth Cup quarterfinal after beating Tottenham Hotspur U18s 2-0 in their fifth round tie meeting at the Lamex Stadium on Tuesday evening, with two Nigerian youngsters, Tariq Uwakwe and Faustino Anjorin featuring for Chelsea.
Dujon Sterling fired the young Blues into an early lead, pouncing on a Juan Castillo's cross which was half cleared to stab home the opening goal after just 14 minutes.
Tariq Uwakwe pulled up with an injury soon after the opener after taking a knock to the knee and had to be replaced by compatriot, Faustino Anjorin in the 28th minute.
Marc Guehi doubled Chelsea's lead after the intermission following a Josh McEchran's corner when he retrieved to stab beyond Tottenham goalkeeper, De Bie from just inside the box.
Anjorin nearly caused a third goal for Chelsea with his trickery after he dummied a low ball from McEchran for James to strike but it hit a defender and bounced wide as it ended 2-0.
Anjorin has scored twice for Chelsea in the competition, against West Brom and Scunthorpe in the third and fourth round respectively.
England U17 World Cup-winning defender Timothy Eyoma went the distance for Spurs and came close to scoring but his header was cleared off the line in the second half.
