Arsenal Loanee Akpom Scores Stunning Long-Range Effort Vs Anderlecht
Published: February 17, 2018
Arsenal Loanee Chuba Akpom scored one of the best goals of his career, if not the best, in Sint-Truiden's 1-0 win over Anderlecht in a Belgian First Division A clash staged at Stayen on Friday evening.
Only last weekend, the former England U21 international almost scored a goal of the season contender in Sint-Truiden's 3-0 loss to KAA Gent, but saw his powerful left-footed shot tipped into the woodwork by the goalkeeper.
Akpom was not to be denied against Anderlecht when he netted what proved the game-winner three minutes before half-time.
The Hale End Academy product was around the center circle when he received a pass, he made a run and managed to ride the challenge of a defender before firing home from outside the box.
Before yesterday's clash vs Anderlecht, Akpom had not scored a senior goal since bagging a hat-trick against Bury in the fourth round of the FA Cup on January 30, 2016 while wearing the jersey of Hull City.
To date, the 22-year-old has 83 first team appearances to his name cumulatively for Arsenal, Hull, Brighton, Nottingham Forest, Coventry, Brentford and Sint-Truiden.
