Argentina GK Who Conceded Four Goals : Don't Judge Me Based On Nigeria Game
Published: March 30, 2018
America goalkeeper Agustín Marchesín believes he was unfairly criticized and made a scapegoat for Argentina's 4-2 loss to Nigeria in a pre-World Cup friendly last November.
With the uninspiring performance of Chelsea's Wilfredo Caballero in La Albiceleste's 6-1 loss to Spain this week and the non-utilization of Nahuel Guzmán, Marchesín reckons that he is still a candidate to be one of the three goalkeepers at the World Cup despite his omission from the last roster.
''I have 70 or 80 games per year here in América and I think I've been doing things right,'' Marchesín told TyCSports
''You can not judge a player for one game that is bad, just as you can not say that one already deserves to go to the World Cup for one game.
''I think the evaluation should be done by the coach with peace of mind and know what will be the best for our country.
''And if it's my turn to be, I'll be happy. And if I do not have to be there, I'll support because it's an excellent group.''
Kelechi Iheanacho, Alex Iwobi and Brian Idowu were on target as Nigeria recovered from a 2-0 deficit in the first-half to beat Argentina in Krasnodar.
