Goals From Nigerian Midfielders Put Chelsea On Brink Of Retaining Title
Published: April 07, 2018
Chelsea will retain the U18 Premier League title Southern section if they claim a point at West Ham next weekend after thrashing Southampton 4-0 at Cobham Training Centre on Saturday afternoon.
While Tariq Uwakwe and Faustino Anjorin started for the defending champions, Michael Obafemi and Jonathan Afolabi started in attack for the young Saints.
The Blues made the breakthrough four minutes before the end of the first half when Tariq Uwakwe steered his finish into the far post.
Taylor-Crossdale doubled the advantage in the 57th minute before Faustino Anjorin made it 3-0 three minutes later.
After Guehi's goal, Uwakwe came close to scoring Chelsea's fifth but his shot was off target.
Chelsea's Nigerian winger Tushaun Walters watched proceedings from the bench for the entirety of the game.
With nearest challengers Arsenal losing 3-1 at home to Leicester City and having four games remaining, today's result moved Chelsea 12 points clear at the summit.
Up next, Jody Morris kids will host Nicholas Okoro's Birmingham City in the semifinal second leg of the FA Youth Cup on Tuesday, April 10.
