Super Eagles Stars Impress But Las Palmas Suffer Late Heartbreak At Levante
Published: April 08, 2018
Super Eagles stars Oghenekaro Etebo and Imoh Ezekiel were in impressive form on Sunday despite La Liga side Las Palmas losing 2-1 to home side Levante at the Estadio Cuidad.
Levante scored first in the 35th minute through Andujar Moreno (Coke) who was red carded after two bookings but Las Palmas equalized courtesy David Garcia five minutes into the second half.
Campana then curled the ball beautiful in added time to secure victory for the former club of Obafemi Martins.
The defeat means Las Palmas are ten points adrift of safety at the foot of the La Liga table still with 21 points from 31 games and occupying the 19th position.
Etebo who was missing in Nigeria's two friendlies against Poland and Serbia returned to the starting line up of Las Palmas played from start to finish and combined beautifully with Ezekiel for the latter's 75th minute header saved by Levante's keeper Oeier.
This came barely a minute after Ezekiel's cracking shot after an interchange with Erik Exposito.
The early Sunday fixture was Etebo's eighth game of the season for the club he joined in the January transfer window while Ezekiel made his fourth La Liga appearance.
Former Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike was not listed for the game.
