Why Joel Obi Flopped Vs England? Rohr Provides Answer & Hails Brian Idowu
Published: June 03, 2018Super Eagles boss Gernot Rohr has admitted that Torino midfielder Joel Obi is not in tiptop condition and this contributed to his dismal performance in the 2-1 loss to England.
The former Inter Milan wonderkid was inactive for his Italian Serie A club in their last five games in the 2017-18 campaign due to a muscle-related injury before he reported for international duty.
''Joel today had a little problems to find his game and he is working very hard because he was injured for a few weeks,'' said Rohr at the post-match press conference.
''We see that he is not 100 percent fit and if he's in the 23-man squad he has to work very much like other players also.
''Don't forget that all these traveling are part of the problems. ''
Speaking on the performance of Amkar Perm's Brian Idowu, Rohr stated : ''For the position of left-back, we also have Elderson Echiejile. Idowu did well especially in the second half, he is fit, he is quick.''
Though Ola Aina and Mikel Agu have been dropped from the squad list, the German revealed that they will not be 'eliminated' and are standby players.
