The Three Nigerian World Cup Records Musa Set In Eagles Win Vs Iceland, Uzoho Sets African Record
Published: June 22, 2018Leicester City striker Ahmed Musa is the latest official Man of the Match at the ongoing World Cup in Russia after he kept Nigeria's hopes alive with a brilliant brace against Iceland on Friday.
The Super Eagles number seven opened the scoring in the 49th minute after a swift counter attack, then doubled the advantage when he rounded Iceland goalkeeper, Halldorsson and fired a shot into the net from close range on 75 minutes.
In doing so, the former Kano Pillars poster boy set three Nigerian World Cup records in one day.
Musa became the first Nigerian player to score braces in two World Cups and has also gone down in history as the first Nigerian to score in two World Cups.
In addition, the 25-year-old is the top scorer for Nigeria in the history of the World Cup with four goals, beating a record he jointly held with Emmanuel Amunike, Daniel Amokachi and Kalu Uche.
Meanwhile, Deportivo de La Coruña goalkeeper Francis Uzoho became the youngest Nigerian goalkeeper to keep a clean-sheet at the World Cup aged 19 years, 7 months and 25 days, which is also an African record.
The former record was set by Lille goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama on June 12, 2002 when he posted a shutout vs England, aged 19 years, 9 months and 14 days.
