Official : Chelsea Academy POTY Pens New Four-Year Deal, Loaned To Wigan Athletic
With a statement on their official website, Wigan Athletic have announced that they have struck a deal with Premier League side Chelsea to sign England youth international Reece James.

The current Chelsea Academy Player of the Year joins the newly promoted Championship club on a season-long loan.

Last season, James helped Chelsea U18s to win the FA Youth Cup, U18 Premier League and U18 Premier League Cup.

Speaking on his move to the Latics, the fullback told the club's official website : ''There were some different options available.

"I chose to come to Wigan Athletic because it's a great club and I'm looking forward to playing my part.

"I've been watching the team play for a while now and I was very impressed by what the team achieved last season in winning League One.''

James, who was a member of the England squad that won both the Toulon tournament and European U19 Championship in 2017, penned a new four-year deal with the Blues before he was loaned out.
