Ex-Spurs Young Star Of Nigerian Descent Scores Three Minutes Into Borussia Mönchengladbach Debut
Published: July 13, 2018Borussia Mönchengladbach started their pre-season schedule with a 2-0 win over Regional League side VfB Lübeck on Friday, with new signing Keanan Bennetts scoring on his debut for the Bundesliga club at Stadion Lomühle.
This summer, Bennetts became one of the latest English-born youngsters to move abroad and followed in the footsteps of ex-Crystal Palace starlet Mandela Egbo, who made his debut for Borussia Mönchengladbach during the 2017-2018 season.
Head coach Dieter Hecking named Bennetts in the starting lineup and it took the winger only three minutes before netting his maiden professional professional goal, albeit in a non-competitive game, when he steered the ball past the goalkeeper after meeting a cross from the right.
The former Tottenham Hotspur youth-teamer was replaced after Hecking made wholesale changes at the interval.
Mandela Egbo, who came on as a second half substitute, was close to increasing the lead in the 62nd minute but the fullback failed to score from an acute angle.
Keanan Bennetts, 19, is eligible to represent the senior national teams of Germany and England apart from Nigeria.
