Official: Nigerian-Born Defender Leaves Manchester City For Wolfsberger AC
Published: July 31, 2018Jos-born defender Ashinme Kigbu is the latest Nigerian youngster to sever his ties with an English club, following in the footsteps of Mandela Egbo, Keanan Bennetts, Noni Maduke and Osayamen Osawe.
Austrian Bundesliga club Wolfsberger AC have informed via their official website that they have completed the signing of Kigbu on a two-year contract plus option for another year.
The left-footed central defender is a product of Manchester City's Academy and has two appearances for England U18 national team.
He will train for the first time with his new teammates at Wolfsberger AC on Tuesday.
Speaking on the transfer of the Nigerian teenager, manager Christian Ilzer said : ''A highly talented young player who, in the center-back position where we have been looking for a long time, represents an optimal reinforcement for our squad.''
The 19-year-old Kigbu featured for Manchester City in last season's UEFA Youth League.
