Moses Simon Joins Super Eagles Injury List, Omitted From Levante La Liga Opener Vs Betis
Published: August 17, 2018Levante summer signing Moses Simon has joined the list of Super Eagles currently injured ahead of a crucial 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Seychelles early next month.
The former Gent star has been not been summoned by manager Paco López for their opening match in La Liga against Real Betis at Estadio Benito Villamarin today, Friday.
Simon suffered a quadriceps muscle discomfort in Levante's last pre-season game last weekend and has been undergoing individualized recovery sessions all through this week.
The winger had made his non-competitive debut against Albacete before he was given another run-out against Real Zaragoza on August 11.
Simon was a certainty to be named to Nigeria's 23-man roster for the 2018 World Cup but had to be replaced by Crotone frontman Simeon Tochukwu Nwankwo after suffering an injury in the team's training camp in Uyo.
Ahead of the trip to Seychelles for the AFCON qualifier, manager Gernot Rohr will definitely not invite Bursaspor's Abdullahi Shehu and Benfica's Tyronne Ebuehi for the game as they are both injured.
Whilst the former Kano Pillars star is out of action for the next one month, Ebuehi has suffered a long-term injury and will not return until 2019.
Goalkeeper Francis Uzoho and skipper Obi Mikel are in contention to be called up after they recovered from their respective ailments.
