SC Paderborn 07 React To Invitation Of Left-Footed Defender To Super Eagles
Published: August 27, 2018German 2 Bundesliga club SC Paderborn 07 have celebrated the invitation of their left-footed defender Jamilu Collins to the Super Eagles ahead of a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Seychelles next month.
With the injury enforced absence of Benfica's Tyronne Ebuehi and Bursaspor's Abdullahi Shehu, and the uncertainty surrounding the club future of Elderson Echiejile, manager Gernot Rohr has handed a maiden call-up to Collins.
The left fullback is not entirely an unknown quantity as he was a member of the Flying Eagles squad at the 2013 Toulon Tournament and started the 1-1 draw against Belgium but did not come off the bench against Mexico, Brazil and Portugal.
Leicester City's Wilfred Ndidi and Rotherham United's Semi Ajayi, who have been named in the latest Nigeria squad, were in the Flying Eagles Toulon team, along with the uninvited trio Olarenwaju Kayode, Moses Simon and Shehu, and Uche Agbo who has been placed on standby.
''We are delighted with Jamilu's invitation, which is also an honor for our club, as he will continue to make important career advances on this international fixture journey,'' General Manager Sport Markus Krösche told Paderborn's official webpage.
The Super Eagles will face Seychelles on September 7, four days before a proposed friendly against Saudi Arabia.
