Spanish Clubs Leganes, Elche Yet To Test Out Their Summer Signings Omeruo, Uzoho In The League
Published: September 16, 2018Nigeria internationals Kenneth Omeruo and Francis Uzoho have yet to make their league debut for Leganes and Elche CF in La Liga and Segunda División respectively.
On Sunday, September 16, the Chelsea loanee was a non-playing substitute as Leganes were beaten 1-0 by Villarreal on game week four in the Spanish topflight.
Omeruo is behind Dimitris Siovas, Unai Bustinza and Ezequiel Muñoz in manager Mauricio Pellegrino's pecking order of central defenders in the first four matches of the new season.
A division lower, it looked like goalkeeper Francis Uzoho had been installed as the first choice goalkeeper after making his first start of the season in all competitions in Elche's 2-1 win over Granada in the Copa del Rey on Thursday.
Despite the teenager's brilliant performance against Granada, coach Pacheta opted to pick the veteran goalie José Juan ahead of the Super Eagle for today's league match with Mallorca.
Omeruo and Uzoho were excused from the friendly against Liberia, having started in the 3-0 rout of Seychelles last weekend.
