The Best Men's & Women's Coaches : How Rohr & Mikel Voted; Ebi Includes Chelsea Coach In Top Three
Published: September 25, 2018On Monday evening, France World Cup winning manager Didier Deschamps was voted the Men's coach of the year at the FIFA Best Awards 2018 while Reynald Pedros was named the Women's coach of the year after guiding Olympique Lyonnais to win the Champions League.
El-Chelsea defensive midfielder Deschamps (30.52 %) saw off competition from Zidane (25.74 %) and Dalic (11.81 %) to win the accolade.
National Teams captains and managers were asked to pick three coaches for the award, and the full list of votes were published immediately after the ceremony had concluded.
The voting breakdown showed that Super Eagles skipper John Obi Mikel ranked Croatia's manager Zlatko Dalic third behind Zidane and Josep Guardiola, while Gernot Rohr, who has a French passport, picked two French coaches Deschamps and Zidane first and second respectively, with Guardiola in third place.
Nigeria's media man Christian Okpara selected Zidane, Deschamps and Zlatko Dalic in that order.
In the women's category, Super Falcons captain Onome Ebi included Chelsea women coach Emma Hayes in her top three, behind Pedros Reynald and Wiegman Sarina.
Manager Thomas Dennerby picked Voss-Tecklenburg Martina, Pedros Reynald and Stajcic Alen as his first, second and third choice respectively.
Guardian Nigeria reporter, Okpara, voted for Voss-Tecklenburg Martina (first), Takakura Asako (second) and Vadão (third).
