Super Eagles Player Ratings Vs Libya: Ighalo Stands Tallest; Iwobi, Collins, Etebo Impress; Aina Overcomes Shaky Start
Published: October 13, 2018Odion Ighalo produced a brilliant performance to score a hat-trick for the Super Eagles as they downed Libya 4-0 in Uyo on Saturday afternoon.
Here's how allnigeriasoccer.com rated the Super Eagles after their strong performance against Libya's Mediterranean Knights.
The Starters
Francis Uzoho 7/10 : The Elche keeper was assured in goal. He helped his team make a point save in the first half. His attack-initiating kicks and improved organization helped the Eagles back line to properly contain the attacking threats of the Libyans.
Shehu Abdullahi 5/10 : He's a player who would normally guarantee you at least 5 every time he puts on but injury led to his exit early in the game.
Jamilu Collins 7.5/10 : The Paderborn SC man defended well and contained the Libyans with a cool head. He hit the upright from a solo effort.
Leon Balogun 7/10 : Defensively sound for the most part and contained the Mediterranean Knights.
William Troost Ekong 7.5/10 : Technically Nigeria's best defender on the afternoon. His timing of the vital "recovery tackle" was wonderful.
Wilfred Ndidi 7/10 : Putting in huge performances given his comparisons with Sunday Oliseh. Did the essentials, making timely stops in the middle and blocking balls and gagging spaces.
Oghenekaro Etebo 7.5/10 : Most powerful performer in the midfield. Etebo was elusive with the ball and quick to surge forward and initiate attacks. His vision and pace in central midfield caused problems for the Libyans and they resulted to sawing him down intermittently to break his vision.
Samuel Kalu 7/10 : Nimble-footed! Used his abilities on the flanks, exploited the space and weaknesses in the Libyan defence.
Ahmed Musa 7/10 : Musa steered the team and run all afternoon. Sustained series of tackles but never got tired until he was replaced by Henry Onyekuru in the 80th minute of the game.
Alex Iwobi 7.5/10 : Iwobi put up a strong performance in the game, constantly harassing the Libya in their own area. He provided an assist for Ighalo.
Odion Ighalo 9/10 : You could probably rate Ighalo's performance as influential on the afternoon but the only way he could make the difference is doing what he did - a brilliant hay trick. The Changchun Yatai goal-machine proved why he is indispensable in Nigeria's attack and yet one of the best scorers on the continent.
The Substitutes
Ola Aina 6.5 : The Torino defender overcame a shaky start. He wasn't afraid to venture forward and offered a positive outlet to his teammates
Isaac Success 6/10 : The Watford man was dangerous upfront. He was sharp for the Eagles.
Henry Onyekuru 6/10 : Onyekuru came off the bench to give the Eagles something different. He provided the assist for Kalu's goal.
