2019 AFCON Qualifiers: Opabunmi Sure Eagles Can Overtake South Africa, Rates Rohr's Team High Vs Libya
Published: October 14, 2018
Former Nigeria international Femi Opabunmi is confident that the Super Eagles can win the rest of their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and usurp South Africa at the top of the Group E qualification table.
Gernot Rhor's team thumped Libya 4-0 on Saturday at the Akwa Ibom International Stadium to go second in the table on six points, one place behind South Africa's Bafana Bafana with the Eagles now having three more games to play ahead of 2019 AFCON.
The Eagles will play Libya in the reverse fixture in Sfax, Tunisia on Tuesday before an away clash against South Africa on November 16 and a home game with Seychelles in March 2019.
"Yes, for sure, I believe the Eagles can win their remaining matches in the qualifiers. I do not have any worries even against South Africa," Opabunmi told allnigeriasoccer.com.
"The South Africa win over Seychelles (6-0) was not a surprise because the Seychelles team, with due respect to them, are the weakest team in the group.
"We should not be bothered what happens in other matches right now, win our three games left and we're guaranteed a ticket to the AFCON," the 2001 FIFA U-17 World Cup star stressed.
On the performance of the Nigerian players on Saturday, Opabunmi refrained from mentioning those who impressed and disappointed.
"Everyone one of them played well. Its a team game, win or lose so they all did well by winning which was most important," Opabunmi concluded.
The Eagles are expected to depart Nigerian shores on Monday, a day before the game in Tunisia.
