Ex-Flying Eagles Striker Alhaji Gero Finally Gets Off The Mark For Esteghlal
Published: November 01, 2018Former Nigeria U20 international Alhaji Gero is finally off the mark for the Iranian club he joined in August 2018.
Prior to today's Hazfi Cup encounter against Saipa at Azadi Stadium (Tehrān), the striker had been searching for his first goal after featuring for Esteghlal in seven official matches.
Gero fired blanks in league matches against Tractor Sazi, Foolad, FC Nassaji M, Persepolis, Saipa FC and Sepahan and was also unable to break his duck against Naft Masjed Soleyman FC in the Cup.
The 25-year-old celebrated his first goal in the colours of Esteghlal when he converted a penalty in the 34th minute but his goal could not prevent his team from losing on penalties after extra time.
He represented Scandinavian teams östersunds FK, östers IF and Viborg FF before deciding to move onto pastures new this summer.
Gero will be looking for his first goal in the Persian Gulf Pro League when Esteghlal lock horns with Machine Sazi next Monday.
