Doubts Over Fitness Of Iwobi, Balogun & Ekong, Super Eagles Trio Undergo Individual Training
Published: November 13, 2018Ahead of Saturday's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between South Africa and and Nigeria in Johannesburg, there are doubts over the fitness of three players expected to be included in the starting line-up, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Udinese defender William Troost-Ekong, Brighton's Leon Balogun, and Arsenal winger Alex Iwobi did not participate in full training and it is being speculated that the trio are carrying knocks ahead of the crunch match.
Troost-Ekong, Balogun and Iwobi just had a run-out of light sprints before sitting out to watch the other players train.
After the training session, Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr played down speculations that the aforementioned players are not in tip-top condition, saying that it was more of a precaution than anything.
''Yes Iwobi, Leon and Troost trained alone just out of precaution and to keep them fresh for Saturday,'' said Rohr to allnigeriasoccer.com.
Nigeria's preparation for the match day five fixture against South Africa has been rocked by injuries to Odion Ighalo, Francis Uzoho and Abdullahi Shehu while influential midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is suspended.
