Super Eagles Player Ratings Vs RSA : Kalu Star Man; Musa Impresses; Omeruo Above Average; Ogu Descent; Iheanacho Not So Good
Published: November 17, 2018Bafana Bafana will have to wait until the final Group E game to secure qualification for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations after drawing 1-1 with Nigeria, who have now qualified for the tournament.
Nigeria took the lead in the tenth minute after a cross from Samuel Kalu deflected off Buhlebuyeza Mkhwanazi’s shoulder and sneaked in at Itumeleng Khune's near post.
In the 26th minute, Lebogang Mothiba brought Stuart Baxter’s charges level with a simple tap in inside the box after Percy Tau eliminated two defenders before unselfishly setting up the France-based striker, 1-1.
Here's how the Super Eagles fared in the game;
The Starters
Ikechukwu Ezenwa: He had little to do and wasn't at fault for the goal. 6/10
Samuel Kalu: The best Nigerian player on display. He was a positive influence and always looked to attack. His cross was diverted home for an own goal by Buhlebuyeza Mkhwanazi’s. 8/10
Jamilu Collins: Jamilu wasn't afraid to attack. He tried his best for the team. 6/10
Kenneth Omeruo: He helped clean up play but should have done better when Percy Tau bumped to the area. He should have easily netted the winner. 6/10
Leon Balogun: Balogun hardly put any foot wrong in the match. He was a leader at the back. 6.5/10
William Troost-Ekong: Another good game in office. He was important at the back. 6/10
John Ogu: Ogu was decent at central midfield. He had his header cleared in the second half. 6.5/10
Oghenekaro Etebo: Etebo was the silent assassin for the Eagles. 6/10
Alex Iwobi : He was the playmaker that knitted the Eagles together with delicious passes. 6.5/10
Kelechi Iheanacho: Poor game by his usual standard. He was guilty of missing a sitter in the second half. 4/10
Ahmed Musa: The Al-Nassr striker caused all sorts of problems with his pace. He was always involved. 7/10
The Substitutes
Isaac Success: A quality presence for the Eagles upfront. 6/10
Henry Onyekuru: Didn't last enough time to be rated. N/A
Semi Ajayi: A time wasting substitution. N/A
